Make Music

Make Music Day PDX is an event for people who love music and the joyous sense of community it fosters.  Make Music Day PDX grew out of the Fête de la Musique, which originated in France in 1982 as a call to musicians in Paris to get out in the streets on June 21st and play music.  The festival has since spread throughout Europe and Africa and is gaining traction in a number of American cities.

A celebration of all music played by and enjoyed by people of all stripes, Make Music Day PDX is a call to participation: Music for the People, By the People.  It is an invitation to all musicians, amateur as well as professional, to share music on June 21st every year.  We invite everyone to show up and enjoy the music.

The next Make Music Day PDX will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at locations all around Portland.  It is free and open to the public.  In 2015 and 2016, we presented a total of 133 performers at 31 venues.

This year, performances will be held at a number of outdoor parks and local indoor venues.  Performances will range between the hours of noon and 8 pm, with notable events including an open invitation to local ukelele players to gather in Portland’s own living room at Pioneer Square, outdoor performances at Director Park, and more intimate gatherings in cafés such as St. Honoré on Division. We encourage you to grab your friends, pick up your instrument, and come celebrate!
